This is why the new Sony PlayStation 5 is lighter.
We told you last week that Sony updated its PlayStation 5 console. We found some differences in the new PlayStation 5 and why the revised model is more than 300 grams lighter than the first generation.
Sony said that this is the first time they have profited on a new generation of game consoles, and the company now seems to have reduced some of the costs to increase profit margins further.
Popular Austin Evans recently disassembled the updated PlayStation 5 and pointed out some minor hardware changes, as well as some major changes. The screws on the bracket have been redesigned and can now be easily unscrewed with fingers. Wi-Fi and other components may also have new wiring.
The most significant change and why the new console is lighter is that the aluminium and copper radiators are smaller in size than the previous generation. The PlayStation 5 console is now 300 grams more lightweight, and its mass is nearly 16% lighter than the previous radiator. The larger the radiator, the more heat it can dissipate, thus keeping the console cool. As a result, the new console runs hotter than the previous generation, but it does not seem to affect performance-based early testing.
Has a new fan. It has deeper impeller grooves, which may push more air through the radiator. This may be used as a countermeasure to reduce the radiator. The operating temperature of the new console is 3-5° C higher than the previous generation.
It is unclear what software updates are available to ensure that the console will not throttle and affect performance. If not cleaned properly, a slight change of 5 degrees Celsius may cause problems and may damage internal components within a few years.
