MediaTek Dimensity 2000 may be more efficient than Snapdragon 898 and A15 Bionics.
MediaTek launched the Dimensity series last year. MediaTek was initially launched as a mid-range chipset but had been slowly (but steadily) upgrading its chipset games; the latest report is another evidence of its efforts. According to a new report, MediaTek will launch its high-end Dimensity, 2000 series processors, later this year. The report claims that the chipset may be based on a 4nm node manufacturing process, which may beat Apple’s upcoming A15 Bionic.
Earlier this year, a tweet claimed that MediaTek announced on its earnings conference call that it would launch a 4nm chip “before the end of the year,” and Dimensity 2000 seems to be working in this direction. Today’s report not only says that the SoC will be built on the 4nm process but also that MediaTek will go all out on specifications. It said that the 2000 chip would use the new ARM V9 architecture and the new Cortex-X2 core. It will be manufactured by TSMC. If you can believe it, MediaTek’s Dimensity 2000 will not be much different from Qualcomm or Samsung’s 2022 top SoC.
For those who don’t know, in theory, the node process will affect the efficiency of the chipset. “Nm” represents the proximity of the transistors in the chip. The closer the transistors are (or, the smaller the number of nanometers), the higher the efficiency of the chip.
In contrast, Apple is expected to stick to the A15 bionic 5nm node process. The company is said to have developed an “enhanced 5nm+” process, which will form the basis of its upcoming flagship chipset. The company is not expected to ship 4nm chips until next year.
In terms of Snapdragon, Qualcomm is also expected to ship 4nm process chips, 898 or 895, later this year or early next year. However, the chipset will be manufactured by Samsung, not TSMC. According to the NotebookCheck report, TSMC’s node has a solid advantage over Samsung. If this is true, Dimensity 2000 will provide the same efficiency or even better than the Qualcomm chipset based on the same 4nm node manufacturing process.
According to the report, MediaTek has distributed some samples of Dimensity 2000 to its hardware partners for internal testing. If all goes well, we should see the first mobile phone equipped with Dimensity 2000 on the market early next year.
