New 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro released, equipped with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.
Above the new keyboard is the new display. The top and center of the display are notches. Yes, the new 2021 MacBook Pro models have a notch. The macOS menu bar is located near this gap, providing users with more screen area. Unfortunately, the gap only houses a new 1080p FaceTime camera sensor, microphone array, and ambient light sensor. There is no face ID biometric sensor in the gap.
The bezel is also thinner. Apple said the side of the display on the new MacBook Pro is 34% thinner and the top 60% thinner. It is the mini LED technology of the iPad Pro that lights up the new display. Interestingly, the new 2021 MacBook Pro models also support a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate and 1,600 nits of peak brightness.
The audio system of the new MacBook Pro model has also been improved. Apple said that the new studio-quality microphone has a “lower noise floor.” There is a new high-fidelity six-speaker sound system with two tweeters and four forced-cancellation woofers. According to Apple, there is more space in the speaker system, which can bring more than 80% of the bass.
On the front of the I/O port, the new 2021 MacBook Pro is equipped with HDMI, SD card slot, 3.5 mm headphone jack, USB C port, and MagSafe. The old MagSafe is back and has been upgraded to version 3. However, you can still charge via USB C. Display support has also been improved. Now you can connect up to two Pro Display XDRs to a MacBook Pro equipped with M1 Pro, and you can connect up to three Pro Display XDRs and a 4K TV to a MacBook Pro equipped with M1 Max. In terms of wireless connection, the 2021 MacBook Pro is equipped with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0.
The new model is truly made for professionals. They are supported by Apple’s latest M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets.
Apple also claims that battery life has been greatly improved. Apple stated that the 14-inch version should take approximately 17 hours of video playback, while the 16-inch version should take approximately 21 hours. The new laptop also supports fast charging. Apple says that the new MacBook Pro models should be charged to 50% in about 30 minutes.
The basic model of the 14-inch 2021 MacBook Pro equipped with the M1 Pro chip is priced at $1,999. The 16-inch model starts at $2,499. Starting today, all new models are available for purchase. It will start shipping on Tuesday, October 26, and the shipping date of some models has been postponed to December.
