Netflix launches Spatial Audio on iPhone & iPad
.Netflix is providing support for Spatial Audio on iPhone & iPad. Spatial Audio provides an immersive experience, bringing cinema-like multi-directional audio to your headphones.
This feature was first discovered by users on Reddit and then confirmed by Netflix to many publications. Now, when you play a TV show or movie with multi-directional audio on Netflix, you will see a dedicated spatial audio switch in the control center of your iPhone or iPad.
Spatial Audio is available in iOS 14 and iOS 15 and also requires AirPods Max or AirPods Pro to work. In requirements, you also need iPhone 7 or later or an iPad 6th generation or later to use this feature.
Apple said Spatial Audio could use the gyroscopes and accelerometers in iPhone, iPad , and compatible Apple headsets to create a cinema-like experience.
By applying directional audio filters and cleverly adjusting the frequency received by each ear, spatial audio can place the sound almost anywhere in the space, creating an immersive surround sound experience.
iOS 15 is based on the spatial audio function and brings multi-directional audio to non-Dolby Atmos content. This feature will allow iOS users to use almost any song or video in Spatial Audio.
If you don’t see Spatial Audio in the Netflix app on your iPhone or iPad, make sure to update to the latest version from the App Store. If you have the latest version, you may have to wait for a while because Netflix said it would be a slow launch.
