Xiaomi’s 200W charging is terrible for battery health

Facts have proved that Xiaomi’s new 200W charging is not very good for battery health. However, this is not entirely surprising. We suspect that it will lower the battery capacity faster than the slower solution, and it turns out this is true.

In the Q&A session, Xiaomi introduced its charging technology in more detail through its Weibo account. One of the problems is battery life. Xiaomi confirmed that 200W charging and discharging 800 times would cause the battery capacity to drop to “over 80%” of the original capacity.

Now, it will take you about two years to reach 800 charging cycles and a little more. Therefore, if we consider that the battery capacity will drop by 20% during that time, your battery will be 3,200mAh.

The company gave a similar forecast for 800 charges/discharge cycles. Therefore, in the case of OPPO, dividing a battery into several batteries does not help.

If we compare it with OPPO’s 65W charging, the battery capacity is reduced to 91%, which is a considerable difference. This essentially means that, compared with OPPO’s 65W charging, OPPO’s 125W and Xiaomi’s 200W fast-charging solutions have twice the impact on the battery. Even a little bit more than that.

For those who don’t know, Xiaomi announced its 200W wired and 120W charging technology last month. The company shocked the world when it showed us that its 200W charging could fully charge a 4,000mAh battery in 8 minutes.

Sticking to 30W / 65W charging may be a wise move.

This fast-charging comes at a price. The 65W charging speed is extremely fast. Needless to say, maybe the company should shelve the idea of 100W and 200W charging, at least for now. They should avoid using these methods until they find a better solution.

I don’t know you, but I would instead use 65W charging, or even 30W charging and keep my battery capacity relatively high after a period of time, instead of using 125W or 200W charging and losing a considerable part.
