Gorgeous OLED 4K TV graphics and Dolby Atmos soundbar combined into one
Philips TV will soon release its next set of OLED TVs, including an update to the extraordinary OLED+935 series that won our hearts last year. These TVs combine excellent with Bowers & Wilkins’ Dolby Atmos sound system, which is as good as a high-quality standalone soundbar, but at no higher cost than other mid-range OLED TVs.
The news of Philips OLED+936 comes from FlatpanelsHD, but I want to emphasize that Philips itself has not confirmed the launch of these TVs. The next-generation model will be equipped with a dual-chip image processor, improved audio and will include HDMI 2.1 features that the previous model lacked.
In our five-star Philips OLED+935 review, we especially praised the 48-inch model because it brings a complete movie experience-including sound and video, to people who don’t have a huge TV and huge sound system space.
This also pushed it into our list of the best OLED TVs, as well as the best TVs overall. Still, these devices are often a bit unknown compared to devices like the LG C1 or Sony A90J-but they shouldn’t be.
If Philips sells TVs in the United States and other major parts of the world, they may have a more significant impact because they are very sensational. Philips tends to provide very bold colours that are particularly suitable for OLED. Its image processing is impressive. It makes things in 4K look very clear without becoming unnatural-and that’s when we come into contact with this, before the fancy two-chip system.
Until this year, the only significant drawback of Philips TVs is the lack of HDMI 2.1 support, which makes them a weaker choice for PS5, Xbox Series X and PC games.
But the new model seems to solve this problem and is fully compatible with HDMI 2.1, including VRR, 4K 120Hz.
Of course, Philips Ambilight is also here-use the lights behind the panel to spread the image on your wall; these lights can also be used with Philips Hue smart lights.
The new model is available in 48-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch sizes, although there are still no 77-inch or 83-inch models (but maybe people who buy this size will not worry so much about the need for a built-in sound system, to be fair).
